Frequently Asked Questions

Service life depends on the length of the ribbon and the amount of printing. A standard ribbon is often enough for several thousand labels or pages. The crucial factor is that print quality remains stable. As soon as prints appear pale or incomplete, the ribbon should be replaced.

Width and length depend on your printer model. Common widths range between 40 and 110 millimeters, and lengths between 74 and 300 meters. Core diameter is also important, as not every printer can accept every roll.

Each manufacturer, such as Zebra, TSC or Honeywell, has specific models that require special dimensions. Pay attention to your device’s printing technology and the required ribbon quality to make the optimal choice.

-For paper labels, a wax ribbon is sufficient. -For coated paper and films, wax-resin blends are suitable, as they are more resistant. -For textile labels or outdoor labels, you need resin ribbons because they are extremely robust and withstand heat, cold and moisture.

A wax ribbon contains a color layer that melts at low temperature and is transferred to normal paper. It is inexpensive and produces clear prints, but only for indoor labels, as the layer is relatively sensitive.

In thermal transfer printing, the printhead selectively heats tiny elements. The heat melts the ribbon’s color layer and transfers it to the material. This creates razor-sharp prints that, unlike direct thermal printing, are particularly durable. This technology makes it possible to produce labels that remain legible for many years and do not fade from light or heat.
