 Special features of analogue and digital signal transmission 

Cables transmit information in various ways. The different transmission paths are referred to as signals. A distinction is made between analogue and digital signal transmissions. Analogue signals are usually based on a continuous data stream, while digital signals tend to occur explosively and therefore need to be temporarily stored. When selecting the right cable for analogue signals, capacity and resistance must be taken into account. The capacity should be low, as this means the signal is less attenuated and can therefore travel longer distances without weakening. The resistance should also be low, as this allows more signals to be transmitted. 

Some devices have a built-in digital-to-analogue converter, or DAC for short. These devices can then also be connected via cables and adapters , which are passive and therefore only transmit the analogue signal. If your device does not have a built-in digital-to-analogue converter, you will need a cable with a DAC, as otherwise the transmission of digital audio signals will not work.
