Cables & Adapters
Although cables and adapters have been replaced by Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in some applications, there are still a number of situations where using a cable is beneficial. Adapters are connectors that connect different plug and socket formats. This is necessary, for example, when two devices do not have the same connection option and therefore need to be bridged. Cable adapters work on the same principle, but thanks to the cable, they can also be used for applications where the devices are further apart.
At Electropapa, you will find a large selection of cables and adapters for a wide range of applications. For the You will also find charging cables, USB cables, HDMI cables and various network cables. Adapters are also an essential part of our range. As a customer, you have another advantage – by purchasing spare parts from our own brand, vhbw, you save money. With our wide range of electronic accessories, we also fill gaps, for example when certain original spare parts are no longer produced by the manufacturer and are therefore no longer available. Our wide range includes cables and adapters for Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi and Motorola, among others. Shipping within the UK is free of charge. Application scenarios for audio and video adapters
Audio and video adapters are now indispensable in any office or home office. Very small and lightweight laptops in particular usually only have a USB-C port. If you need to connect additional devices such as a keyboard or monitors, you will need an adapter. In our shop, you will find adapters for LAN cables, HDMI Thunderbolt adapters, Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters, monitor adapters and many more. We offer both classic cables and adapters that work with devices from popular manufacturers, as well as USB-C adapters for Apple that are compatible with Apple's Lightning system.
Another problem that most people are familiar with is the lack of a headphone jack on modern smartphones. Although there are headphones that can be connected to the USB-C port, it can be very annoying if your favourite headphones still have an old jack plug. At Electropapa, we offer an affordable solution to this problem. In our online shop, you will find headphone plug adapters and USB headphone adapters so that you can continue to use your favourite headphones.
If you want to listen to your own music or make phone calls in a car that does not have a multimedia system with Bluetooth, you will need an AUX adapter. The AUX adapters from our own brand vhbw are compatible with a wide range of smartphone manufacturers and not only enable media transfer, but also simultaneous charging.
LAN cables, together with Ethernet cables, are network cables. These cables can be used to connect a device, such as a PC or laptop, to a Wi-Fi router. Unlike wireless connections, wired connections not only offer higher speeds but also greater security. At Electropapa, you will find LAN cables in the CAT5, CAT6 and CAT7 performance classes. For private use, CAT6 cables are usually sufficient. If your terminal device does not have an Ethernet connection, you can easily replace it with a USB LAN adapter. Of course, you can also find these adapters in our online shop. At Electropapa, you will also find cinch cables from our own brand, vhbw. These RCA cables can be used to transmit video and audio signals. This allows you to connect an MP3 player or smartphone to another device, for example. Normally, it is not possible to transmit signals from a SCART socket to an HDMI input. In fact, new devices now only feature HDMI connections. However, sometimes you may want to connect an old DVD player or play a game console from your childhood. For this to work, you need a converter, also known as a SCART cable adapter. This converts the analogue signal from your output device into digital data that can then be played back.
Our vbhw antenna adapters are made of high-quality material, making them particularly robust and corrosion-resistant, thus ensuring flawless transmission of the desired signal. With these antenna cable adapters, you can easily create your own antenna cable with your preferred connection combination or extend an existing antenna port.& nbsp;
Special features of analogue and digital signal transmission
Cables transmit information in various ways. The different transmission paths are referred to as signals. A distinction is made between analogue and digital signal transmissions. Analogue signals are usually based on a continuous data stream, while digital signals tend to occur explosively and therefore need to be temporarily stored. When selecting the right cable for analogue signals, capacity and resistance must be taken into account. The capacity should be low, as this means the signal is less attenuated and can therefore travel longer distances without weakening. The resistance should also be low, as this allows more signals to be transmitted.
Some devices have a built-in digital-to-analogue converter, or DAC for short. These devices can then also be connected via cables and adapters , which are passive and therefore only transmit the analogue signal. If your device does not have a built-in digital-to-analogue converter, you will need a cable with a DAC, as otherwise the transmission of digital audio signals will not work. If you are not sure whether your device has a digital-to-analogue converter, or if you are unsure whether the cable you have chosen is the right one for your application, you can contact our support team for quick and expert advice. Together, we will find the right cable or adapter for you from our extensive range.
Although many data transfers are now carried out via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, classic PC connection cables still have their place. Not only do they enable faster data transfer, they also ensure a more secure connection. When selecting the right cable or adapter, it is always important to consider the transmission direction. This can usually be found on the adapter or packaging. The transmission direction indicates how the signal is sent from the cable or adapter. Cables or adapters that are marked as bidirectional can transmit the signal in both directions. This is often the case when the adapter or cable also contains a chip that can convert signals, for example into an HDMI signal.
How to identify faulty cables
Whether it's for charging your laptop or smartphone, USB cables have become an indispensable part of our everyday lives. However, we often don't treat these cables with much care – they get stuffed into bags, pulled on and sometimes even run over by office chairs or bent sharply. So it's hardly surprising that cables break from time to time. You can tell that a cable is defective when the charging process or signal transmission no longer works properly. In such a case, you can try to fix the loose connection by stabilising the cable. However, if the cable is broken, you will need a new one. At Electropapa, you can quickly and easily inexpensive new cables for your devices.
Disposing of old cables correctly
Once a cable has reached the end of its service life, perhaps because it is simply too old or has been damaged, it must of course be disposed of. However, there are a few things to bear in mind when disposing of cables. Cables for PCs, LAN cables, HDMI cables, or even simple extension cables must not simply be thrown into the household waste or the recycling bin. This is because cables contain many raw materials, some of which are very valuable. If you make sure to dispose of your old cables properly, these raw materials can be recycled – which is good for the environment. There are several options for proper disposal: recycling centres usually accept cables free of charge, or you can take your old cables to an electrical retailer. Since 2019, retailers have been obliged to take back electronic waste. It does not matter whether you purchased the cable or adapter in question from this retailer or not.
