Lithium iron phosphate (LFP or LiFePO4) batteries are thermally and chemically stable, improving their overall battery safety through their strong resistance to short-circuiting and overheating. This makes them harder to ignite. LiFePO4 batteries have a very constant discharge voltage so can deliver almost full power until they are discharged. They offer a longer cycle life compared to other lithium-ion batteries and their slower rate of capacity loss ensures a longer service life and low operation costs. Due to their thermal stability (i.e. ability to be used and stored at a wide range of temperatures), these batteries have many applications e.g. as starter batteries in vehicles or as a source of backup power.
