Le batterie ricaricabili agli ioni litio (abbreviato in Li-Ion) sono caratterizzate dall'elevata energia, distinguendosi per essere tra le più potenti. Rispetto agli accumulatori NiMH, per esempio, presentano una bassa autoscarica e una densità energetica maggiore. Non sono soggette all'effetto memoria e non hanno bisogno solitamente di alcun tipo di manutenzione, in quanto non richiedono che vengano scaricate regolarmente. Queste batterie hanno una lunga durata se conservate correttamente e hanno un elevato numero di cicli di ricarica possibili. Le batterie Li-Ion sono generalmente utilizzate in dispositivi portatili a elevato consumo energetico come smartphone, notebook, macchine fotografiche e utensili elettrici. Altri settori di utilizzo sono il modellismo radiocomandato e il fotovoltaico.
